SUMMARY:

The City of Pensacola joined the Opioid Litigation in 2017.  The State of Florida, among other states, and almost 100 political subdivisions within Florida have filed suit against manufacturers and distributors of prescription opioids.  Settlement negotiations have been ongoing between the States and those various manufacturers and distributors.

Council is being asked to take action to approve the participation agreements and a statewide response agreement with the understanding that any monies received because of the settlement with these defendants will have to be spent according to a memorandum of understanding reached with Escambia County, which is also a plaintiff in this litigation.
