SUMMARY:

City Charter Section 8.01 - Charter Review Commission - sets forth the process for the establishment, composition, procedures, rules and compensation, expenses, review, and report and process for the charter review.

City Charter Section 8.01(f) - Review - states, “The CRC shall review, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Pensacola, the City Charter in order to recommend amendments to this Charter, if any.

This will be the first review of the City Charter since its adoption in 2011.  Since that time, the ability to see the strengths and potential shortcomings of the document have presented themselves.  The purpose of the Charter is to, among other criteria, establish adequate checks and balances between the two branches created within the City’s form of government.

City Charter Section 3.01- Form of Government - establishes the city’s form of government as a Mayor-Council form, consisting of two distinct branches; the Legislative Branch (City Council) which is the governing body of the city and the Executive Branch (Mayor).
