SHORT TERM RENTALS

SUMMARY:
The rapid growth of short-term rentals in cities and towns across Florida and the U.S. has been the topic of much debate.
As short-term rentals have become more accessible to both hosts and users, the prevalence of short-term rentals in cities has increased over a short period. But the quick success of short-term rental platforms has not always been welcomed by everyone.
Some common complaints seen nationwide are that short-term rentals can drive up local rents, limit the availability of longer-term residential rentals, and have an effect on available housing stock. The challenge for local leaders seems to be the balancing of competing priorities - housing affordability and availability, neighborhood wellbeing and health and safety, resident and short-term rental owners competing interests (at times) makes considering appropriate regulations, along with this balancing act, difficult.
This workshop allows the City Council to begin this discussion.
