SUMMARY:
The Bruce Beach Park Improvement Project carries out a key component of the 2010 Urban Core Redevelopment Plan, as further conceptualized in the Pensacola Waterfront Framework Plan. The Bruce Beach Park is located at 601 West Main Street, adjacent to South Clubbs Street and west of Maritime Park along Pensacola Bay. In February 2020 the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approved funding the Bruce Beach Park Improvement project through the Urban Core Redevelopment Refunding and Improvement Revenue Bonds, Series 2019. The CRA offered two public input opportunities in June and October 2021, at conceptual and 30% design respectively.
Design of Phase 1 has been completed and a construction contract was awarded in May 2022. Construction of this phase is underway with an anticipated completion for Summer 2023.
Design of Phase 2 continued following allocation of additional funding during the CRA’s October 2022 meeting. Phase 2 of the project has been further divided into sub-phases to address immediate needs for improvement at Clubbs Street, along the western side of the park. This improvement project is referred to as Phase 2A, with the balance of the Phase 2 improvements, referred to as Phase 2B. Phase 2A is fully designed and is anticipated to commence late February / early March 2023 with completion Summer 2023.
Design of Phase 2B is currently at 60% completion. The project design consultants, HDR and SCAPE Landscape Architecture, LLC, will provide a presentation that will cover review of the design plans. Procurement of this phase is expected to occur Spring 2023 with construction commencement scheduled for Summer 2023. The completion of Phase 2B is anticipated for Fall 2024.
Phase 3, which is the design and construction of a historical resource center, has yet to begin as funding has not been identified; however, staff is actively searching for possible funding opportunities to initiate Phase 3.
