SUMMARY:
The purpose of this project is to provide continued ADA-compliant sidewalk connectivity and improve walkability throughout the city. The City website contains the background information related to the methodical process implemented to identify new sidewalk needs throughout the City. Within this same webpage, a list of new sidewalk locations was prioritized, utilizing a standardized prioritization matrix. The locations with the greatest need for new sidewalks received the lowest scores.
Specifically, the project limits for this first phase of new sidewalks are Firestone Boulevard from Summit Boulevard to Bayou Boulevard (approx. 3,225 l/f).
In addition, this new segment of sidewalk will ultimately connect to the sidewalks currently on Bayou Boulevard (Firestone Boulevard to Cervantes Street) as well as new sidewalks that FDOT has agreed to install following City Staff request in the Department’s upcoming resurfacing project from Bayou Boulevard (Baisden Road to Davis Highway) in 2024. The new sidewalks along Bayou Boulevard will run from Baisden Road to the existing sidewalks at 12th Avenue.
