SUMMARY:

In accordance with the Section 3.28-3.33 of the Policies of the City Council, prior to any distribution of grant or sponsorship funds from the City Council Discretionary Funds, approval by City Council is required.

Upward Intuition began in 2015 as a skatepark advocacy group.  Pensacola has had a vibrant and growing skateboarding scene for over 40 years but was missing a location where skateboarders could safely do what they love.  They are committed to helping the youth gain confidence in life skills through advocacy and skateboarding and offering them facilities such as the Blake Doyle Skatepark where they can learn and grow.  Upward Intuition will be hosting the Opening Day Celebration on June 10, 2023 showcasing the impactful representation of the connective power of skateboarding.  This free event will be open to the community and will feature professional demonstrations as well as trick contests throughout the day hosted by local skate shops with cash and sponsor prizes.  The Opening Day will also feature live music and bands, local vendors, food trucks, brand sponsor booths and giveaways, as well as activations for families and kids in the adjacent Community Garden.  Funding will be used towards the Opening Day Celebration event.

The Opening Day Celebration will be held prior to the June 2023 City Council Meeting.  Therefore, it is being brought as an Add-On Legislative Action Item for the May 25, 2023 City Council Meeting.
