SUMMARY:
While there have been amendments to the tree ordinance, many have been specific and narrowly focused. At their July 1, 2021 meeting, the Environmental Advisory Board recommended that City Council begin the process of a comprehensive review of the tree ordinance in order to ensure that the appropriate protections are in place and that the priorities of the City as viewed through the tree ordinance are updated and consistent with current philosophies.
Ultimately, any recommendations for revisions will be sent to the Planning Board for review. Due to the environmental subject matter expertise on the Environmental Advisory Board, a good starting point for this review would be with the Environmental Advisory Board. The Board would hold workshops, gain public input, work with staff and create proposed revisions for delivery to City Council for their referral to Planning Board prior to a final draft being brought to City Council for their consideration.
