AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 11-4-17 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, PROHIBITION REGULATION OF SKATEBOARDS, SKATES, COASTERS, AND OTHER TOY VEHICLES ON SIDEWALKS IN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; REPEALING CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

HEARING REQUIRED:    No Hearing Required

SUMMARY:

A portion of City Code Section 11-4-17. Prohibition of skateboards on sidewalks, carves out a specific area within the downtown corridor.  This action puts skateboarders directly in the streets, which we have recently seen is not a safe resolution.

This amendment provides regulation by expanding the transportation modes, reducing the coverage footprint, removing the portion of the code regarding private property requirements and reduces the penalties for violations.

PRIOR ACTION:

May 23, 1996 - Ordinance No. 23-96, Prohibition of Skateboarding on certain City Sidewalks in Downtown Pensacola area was created and passed by City Council.
