SUMMARY:

Section 9-7-2 provides for continued insurance coverage after an employee leaves City service.  The amendment will make the language compliant with the Affordable Care Act.  The change from ten (10) years of employment to six (6) years of continuous active employment provides for the same vesting period for continuing health insurance coverage as the City’s initial vesting period in 2007 for the Florida Retirement System.  Also, the General Pension and Retirement Plan has six (6) year vesting.  The change is effective for anyone employed with the City at the beginning of the current fiscal year (October 1, 2016).
