SUMMARY:

The current Local Option Sales Tax IV (LOST IV) schedule includes the replacement of two Fire Pumper Trucks scheduled to be replaced in Fiscal Year 2018.   The existing trucks are greater than 20 years old and have excessive and costly maintenance issues.   Staff has been researching replacement trucks, and has determined that Pierce engines will provide the best option for the replacement of these trucks.  During the research for the replacement of these trucks an option for a multi-truck purchase was discovered that provides a significant purchase discount if the order is placed prior to March 1, 2017.   The vehicles can be purchased under the Florida Sheriff’s Association Contract.

In order to take advantage of the purchase discount and save money on increasing vehicle maintenance costs, the supplemental budget resolution appropriating the LOST IV funds being moved forward from Fiscal Year 2018 to Fiscal Year 2017.  However, the actual payment for the purchase is anticipated to occur in Fiscal Year 2018.
