SUMMARY:

The City Council was notified in May of 2018 that Tarpon Paper had stopped taking recyclables from the City. Subsequently, the City’s recyclables were taken to the landfill.  It appears that the last recycling load taken to Tarpon Paper was in September of 2017.

From September of 2017 until May of 2018 the City Administrator failed to notify the governing body or the citizens that recyclables were being taken to the landfill instead of to a recycling facility.

It has been reported that Tarpon Paper charged the City $12.50 a ton for recyclables.  It was further reported that the Perdido Landfill charges $45.06 per ton for solid waste while the Executive Director of ECUA stated that the charge would be around $5.00 per ton for municipal recycling.

This item seeks a “No Confidence” vote for City Administrator Eric Olson for his handling of the recycling issue and lack of notification to the City Council and the citizens of Pensacola.
