That City Council adopt Resolution No. 2019-10:

 

                     A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, HONORING AND COMMENDING MRS. GEORGIA BLACKMON FOR HER DEDICATION TO PRESERVE HISTORY, RESTORE THE ELLA JORDAN HOME, AND PROMOTE COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE  THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES SPONSORED BY THE GATHERING AWARENESS BOOKSTORE AND THE MOTHER WIT INSTITUTE, INC.

SUMMARY:

 

Mrs. Georgia Blackmon has been dedicated to the preservation of history, the restoration of the Ella Jordan Home and the promotion of community and cultural heritage through Educational Programs and activities sponsored by the Gathering Awareness Bookstore as well as through the Mother Wit Institute, Inc.

 

Mrs. Blackmon established the Gathering Awareness Bookstore in 1989 to enhance, stimulate and promote small and minority business interests in Pensacola and has worked for over 29 years in sponsoring many community literary, cultural, educational and networking programs.

 

As the founder and President of the Mother Wit Institute, Inc., Mrs. Blackmon has been instrumental in promoting African American culture and heritage. As part of this endeavor and through the Mother Wit Institute, Inc., Mrs. Blackmon has been instrumental in the restoration of the historic Ella Jordan Home, as she took the leadership role to raise funds and promote the preservation and restoration of this historic house.

 

This Resolution represents the City Council’s desire to honor and commend Mrs. Blackmon for her leadership and devotion to the community of Pensacola.
