SUMMARY:

In June of 2000, City Council adopted Council Policy entitled “Establishment, Naming and Preservation of Historical Resources.”  The stated intent of the policy is “to establish a procedure that will enable the citizens of the City of Pensacola to participate, to the maximum extent feasible, in the establishment, renaming, protection and preservation of these historical resources.”

The policy delineates a process to be followed.  The process applies to “any proposals or requests to name, rename, alter, establish, move or remove a qualifying historical resource” that is the property of the City or located on City property.  A proposal for action concerning a qualifying historical resource is to be addressed as a regular agenda item.  The prescribed process also states that “the City Council shall not take final action on any proposal under this policy until a minimum of thirty calendar days [has passed] from the date the item is first introduced to City Council.

This action item seeks to introduce the item to City Council and begin the running of the thirty-day requirement under the policy.
