SUMMARY:

The Affordable Housing Task Force report presents actionable strategies that the City may use to attain the goal of 500 Homes in 5 Years.  The report is presented for City Council’s adoption.

In late 2019, Council President Jewel Cannada-Wynn proposed the City form an Affordable Housing Task Force to conduct a citywide housing needs assessment and formulate a comprehensive approach to address those needs.  As part of this initiative, Council President proposed the goal of creating 500 Homes in 5 Years.

In January 2020, City Council appointed thirteen members to the Affordable Housing Task Force.  The task force members represent a diverse group of housing experts and advocates.  The City retained the Florida Housing Coalition, an industry leader, to conduct a housing needs assessment, facilitate the meetings, and prepare a final report detailing actionable items.  An orientation webinar was conducted in February followed by four public meetings resulting in the development of a report, which outlines actionable strategies to guide the City toward accomplishing their goal.

To support continued dialog among the members, at the final meeting in August, the members requested the task force be dissolved.
