HEARING REQUIRED: No Hearing Required
SUMMARY:
The operation of the Pensacola International Airport is funded through the fees assessed to the various users of the facility. The airlines, rental car concessionaires, terminal concessionaires, airfield tenants, and other tenants all remit payments designed to offset the overall facility’s ongoing maintenance and operating expenses.
The COVID-19 health emergency has significantly impacted air transportation worldwide. Nationally, the airline industry is currently down 30-40% from Pre-Covid levels. At Pensacola International Airport, year-to date, passenger activity is down substantially with indications that a recovery is firmly in progress. Recent weeks have shown enplanements actually surpassing 2019 levels. With the addition of two new airlines and increased passenger traffic starting MAR21 for a busy summer schedule, revenues are out of alignment with expenses.
A Supplemental Budget Resolution is needed to increase appropriations for current expenses that will be covered by the Airport Coronavirus Response Grant Program (ACRGP) towards the end of the Budget Year.
