SUMMARY:

In accordance with Section 6.08. Council Districts., of the City Charter, City Council appointed a Districting Commission who was tasked as set forth in City Charter Section 6.08(c)(1)(2), which states:

(1)                     Following each decennial census, the commission shall consult the City Council and the Supervisor of Elections and shall prepare a plan for dividing the City into districts for the election of Council Members.  In preparing the plan, the commission shall be guided by the criteria set for in section 6.08(d).  The report on the plan shall include a map and description of districts recommended.

(2)                     The commission shall hold one or more public hearings not less than one month before it submits the plan to the City Council.  The commission shall make its plan available to the public for inspection and comment not less than one month before its public hearing.

On May 13, 2021, the City Council appointed members to and created the Districting Commission.  The Commission has met the requirements set for within the City Charter and have met as a body a minimum of six (6) times to date.  They have consulted and worked with the Supervisor of Elections and have kept the City Council apprised via the Council Executive.

Based on the work done by the commission, a plan will be agreed upon; subsequently being ready for public inspection and comment.
