SUMMARY:
City Charter Section 4.01 (a) (7) - Powers and Duties of the Mayor states:
(7) To appoint the head of each department, with the consent of the City Council by an affirmative vote of a majority of City Council Members.
With the recent growth and redevelopment that the City of Pensacola has been experiencing, and anticipates to experience moving forward, it is desired that all land use / development divisions be housed under one (1) department for consistency, clarity, and customer service purposes. This new department will be called the Development Services Department and will house 3 divisions (Building Inspections Division, Planning & Zoning Division, and the Community Redevelopment Agency Division). This restructuring convert Inspection Services and Planning Services from departments to divisions under the Development Services Department. The Community Redevelopment Agency will be moved under the Development Services Department as a division along with Planning and Inspections. Ms. Morris will serve as the Development Services Department Director.
Ms. Morris has an extensive professional background in land development, zoning, and administrative and government management. She has been working for the City of Pensacola since 1997 in Planning Services and has had oversight of Planning Services since 2004. The City of Pensacola will be very fortunate to have her services leading the Development Services Department.
