SUMMARY:
In April of 2022, City Council received a presentation providing initial findings from the Bruce Beach stormwater source tracking and weekly monitoring of publicly accessible areas.
As a result of that presentation and those findings, ECUA and City Staff met regarding the finding of the presence of bacterial contamination in the city’s storm sewer system. The potential source of the contamination is still unknown at this time.
The storm sewer system is owned and maintained by the City, while wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment is under ECUA’s authority.
Currently ECUA and City staff are working to develop a mutual response plan for further inspection, sampling, and testing.
This item seeks to provide City Council with an update on the progress.
