SUMMARY:

The Port berth six repair project was planned in phases with phase I being the replacement of the piles so that vessels can be safely moored. Phase I was completed in 2019. Phase II of the berth six repair project is replacement of the decking and engineering has been completed. Port tenant Cemex approached port staff and to facilitate offloading of bulk product into their warehouse, they would like to reimburse the port for the additional engineering that will be required to install their specialized off-loading equipment on the berth. The additional engineering costs are estimated to be approximately $100,000 and Cemex has agreed via an agreement to reimburse for all related engineering expenses using the port’s contracted engineering firm APTIM.

The City’s Financial Planning and Administration Policy requires grants and donations that equal $25,000 or more in total expenditures to have City Council approval prior to grant/donation acceptance.  By adopting this Supplemental Budget Resolution City Council is approving the acceptance of this donation.  The City will not engage the engineer until the donation has been received or a MOU has been entered into with CEMEX outlining any additional scope of work needed to accommodate CEMEX’s needs in the Berth 6 design and subsequent donation payment by CEMEX.
